HUD Broadcast recognizing World AIDS Day, Promising Partnerships: Housing Stability and Access to Care
Thursday, November 30, 2006, 1:30-2:30 pm EST
In recognition of World AIDS Day, this HUD broadcast will focus on our housing partnerships that assist persons living with HIV/AIDS and their families. The HUD event will provide an opportunity to learn more about a successful model project under HUD's Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS program, which will provide insight into challenges facing many communities.
The Oregon Community Re-entry Project is a collaboration between the state agencies involved in housing, health and corrections, that have partnered with the Cascade AIDS Project, educational institutions and twenty local nonprofit housing agencies for the goal of transitioning those leaving criminal justice systems and returning to their communities. The housing support with HUD funds serves as a base for the re-entry effort that results in rebuilding families, making reconnections to work with improved skills, and in helping address health challenges with improved access to HIV treatment and other care. The support also helps sustain this successful reintegration as law-abiding citizens with life-skills training, mentoring and monitoring.
Access to information on HUD and other federal agencies programs can be found on a new website (launching December 1, 2006) , AIDS.GOV. This is a gateway to help guide users to Federal domestic HIV/AIDS information and resources to access the range of support available in addressing the issues of HIV.
